Ayam Surya

Our Ayam Surya line was born and raised right here in North Central Florida hatched from fertile eggs from our Ayam Cemani  roo, “Legba”, and our Red Star Sex Link Hens. These babies are beautiful. They have dark charcoal beaks, feet and skin. If you love the fibro melanastic gene but aren’t ready to commit to “goth” chickens, this could be the breed for you. Good layers with exotic looks and since they trace their heritage to Indonesia, they’re more heat tolerant than traditional Northern breeds.

Meet the Ayam Surya

Our Ayam Surya line was born and raised right here in North Central Florida hatched from fertile eggs from our Ayam Cemani roo “Legba” and our Red Star Sex Link hens.

Ayam Surya, August 2018
The Ayam Cemani breed is prized for beauty and since they are originally from Indonesia, they are very heat tolerant. However, since they are a more exotic breed, the Ayam Cemanis are not good at brooding babies and they lay only about 80 eggs per year. The Red Star Sex Links are a cross of Rhode Island Red rooster and Delaware hen. The Red Star Sex Links are fantastic layers at 270 eggs per year. Our girls are free ranging and docile Red Starts that lay lot of eggs. These hybrids are beautiful. They have dark charcoal beaks, feet and skin like their father, but their feathering shows their Delaware roots, with a light yellow, almost apricot base and abstract gray and black markings. The roos should mature around 5-6 pounds and the hens should mature around 4-5 pounds. If you love the fibro melanastic gene, but aren’t ready to commit to “goth” chickens, this could be the breed for you.
